Application of Self: Part One
In the Yuki article that we discussed in class, I find that it is important for leaders to focus on improving both task-oriented behaviors and relations-oriented behaviors. While I do believe that accomplishing company goals and fulfilling your duties regularly on the job by organizing and sharing information is one of the most important aspects of work, I think that listening to and encouraging your employees is just as or even more essential.
Building a good team and having constant communication is key to making the workplace run smoothly. Your staff should also be comfortable enough to approach you with any given issue and trust that you will support them and recognize when they are struggling with a task or need guidance. At the end of the day your company is only as great as the people who work for it; their behaviors shape the ability for the team to achieve the tasks that are at hand. These behaviors can be observed and learned, so it is extremely important for a leader to be aware of his/her behaviors. These behaviors are based on actions that are taken; therefore they can be improved upon and molded to the situation in front of them.
