Application of Self: Part Two

I never really put much thought into leadership before beginning these blog entrees. I viewed leadership as merely a role that is required to take on in life in order to help yourself and others grow. However, after reading multiple leadership articles as well as the book by Collins, “Good To Great”, I have a different perspective on what it takes to be a stand up leader. After learning about the behavioral theories and various leadership styles as well as reflecting on them and the ways they relate to me, I have realized that there is no one definition of a leader. There is no one size fits all in leadership.

A leader is made great by being genuine and staying true to his/her actions that seek to benefit a cause bigger than just improving the self. According to Collins, it takes a strong-willed, yet humble person to really grasp the values of a great leader and ability to determine the difference between a good leader and a great one. I know that I have the potential to become a “Level-5 Leader”, and with a lot of drive, humility, and experience leading others, I believe that I can strive to reach that next level.
