Blog Site Summary

I have to admit that at the beginning of this class I was a bit skeptical about creating a blog based on how I view leadership. I had not put too much thought into analyzing my leadership style or the techniques that guide my leadership roles prior to publishing my first blog. However, after the first blog assignment, I was able to assess myself. I was able to dissect my views on leadership and figure out whom inspired me growing up and what experiences shaped my beliefs and impacted the way I view leadership.

I have always known that I am a very emotionally led person. This is because when I was growing up, I had many challenges in my home life that left my sister and I to get through them alone. We were not able to express our emotions to others at such a young age, so we internally kept all of the pain in. However, we had each other to rely on, and being the big sister, I had to show my sister hope in dark times. I would always come up with positives from the negative situations we were faced with, and would make every obstacle a lesson to be learned. I am able to understand and appreciate others who have been through similar situations, yet still work on helping others in need instead of focusing on their own struggles.

The people whom I look up to as role models are seen by many as an inspiration. I have always admired people who have overcome difficult times, yet keep their head up with a smile on their face. I think that because of the types of leaders that appeal to me, I strive to use the same leadership methods they do: to be understanding, have a kind heart, constantly inspire others to be who they are, and to never give up.

I used to view being emotional as more of a weakness than strength. After taking time this semester to develop the route I want to take as far as leadership, I realized that I can still be a great leader and be emotionally led. Great leaders like Ellen DeGeneres and Gandhi have shown me that I can be passive and kind-hearted, yet still be respected as a leader. Through developing my blogs, reading “Good to Great”, learning about the leadership theories, and really taking the time to think about who I am as a leader, I have a better understanding of where I ultimately want to be. Through my leadership, I aspire to inspire everyone that crosses my path.
